DragonLinux: News from Oct. 98

For those who can't wait, you can check out the offical XFree86-HOWTO at sunsite. I plan to make a condensed, "this is the quick and dirty of it" version more specific to DragonLinux. Some people have requested that I make the seprate archives avaliable for download. You can find them here. Netscape doesn't recognize them as binary files however. I suggest getting a FTP client capeable of HTTP downloads such as Leech FTP. (It's my FTP client of choice - when I'm in Windows... Maybe we could see if we could get an X port... Hmmm...) I have started my "master list" of files to be included in the distro. I hope to have it all put together before the end of next month.

My employer has forced me to remove Linux at work. I do have a working floppy at home now, so there should be no slow down in development. Net access seems to be "restored". I can access all important sites relating to this project and it's development. Added a guestbook. Will probbably add a discussion board of some time soon. (One does exists, but Bruce is still in admin control of it.) Your feedback has been positive, and very encouraging. I also have clearence from the wife to put in some pretty good hours on the project. :) X- HOWTO should be ready by the end of the week. I have had offers for people to help out with HTML and other site administration. (My HTML isn't exatly the best, but it gets the job done) I do like to get offers of such sort. My big problem is that I am terrible with graphics. Could someone perhaps make a logo (or two or three) for DragonLinux? We could have a contest... And the prize would be... Your name in lights? A free CD with DragonLinux and an Archive of Linux software? A DragonLinux T-Shirt? We'll see what I can get with the $0.36 in my pocket... :) I'll probbably spring for a CD (since media is so CHEAP these days) for the winner. Of course, they won't get the CD until I release version .7, since that will be our first new release since acquiring the project. We have started work on the install script/program. (No code yet, just laying out plans) We also plan to release the source under GPL. We are looking for similar programs/scripts (preferrably GPL) so we don't have to re-invent the wheel. Drop us a note.

Removed JavaScript. Brainstormed some ideas over the weekend. Having trouble with my net connection. (They are installing a new proxy server, to lockout just about everything non-work related.) Will actually start work on the distro itself this week. (Adding/removing componets) Any suggestions as to what I should add or removed will be considered. Working on a HOWTO for X Window installation. I will also begin work on a DOS (or maybe even Windows) based install program. By version 1.X I hope to have it setup your networking settings using Win95 information. This will be a while from now. :)

Today I updated the entire site. It is now broken up into several pages. Due to Internet Backbone problems, I am unable to use Hotmail. Since this is a Linux project, I will not use MS whenever possibile. So, I will no longer be using Hotmail for DragonLinux E-Mail. (And there was much rejoicing) I do have a native Linux partition at work now. But, it doesn't look like I will have any time to work on DragonLinux until next week.
